Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Legal Cashier to join our team.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a Legal Cashier with excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering excellent and accurate information.
You will maintain and manage Office & Client Account in compliance with regulatory requirements.
The role requires someone with meticulous attention to detail, who is accurate, has excellent time management skills and is able to prioritise workload.
Must be proficient and have experience of Legal IT Systems and be familiar with the full Microsoft Office Suite
Have experience of handling complex transactions with precision
Is confident to communicate with stakeholders and deliver financial information effectively
Is confident to implement best practice processes and procedures to ensure the smooth running of the Accounts Department whilst remaining compliant to regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Daily bank reconciliations of client and office bank accounts to system ledgers
Producing month end reports for senior management
Review bank statement entries daily & identify DD & SO and post to Nominal Accounts
Dealing with bank payments and transfers and paying in cheques
Processing Completions via the bank and internal ledgers
Dealing with general queries from fee earners, staff, and clients
Dealing with all aspects of purchase ledger; checking, inputting, and payment of supplier invoices
Archiving/closing of client files on the system
Card payment allocation and sales ledger management
Dealing with land registry and HMCTS invoices and statements
Posting conveyance transactional payments Recording, billing, and monitoring
Processing disbursement invoices received
Managing the petty cash and dealing with expenses
Month End Procedures, assisting with payroll, liaising with external Accountants, journal postings along with Year-end procedures & reporting
Dealing with yearly Audits
Reconciliation of completion statements and processing
Month-end reporting and other ledger reporting for fee earners
Calculating VAT returns to HMRC and making quarterly VAT payments
Credit control management
Billing procedures
Posting to Nominal Accounts
Qualifications and Skills:
Desirable but not essential - ILFM Diploma or an experienced Legal Cashier with a minimum of 3 years experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the SAR (Solicitors Accounts Rules)
- Strong numeracy & booking keeping experience
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage time and work efficiently
- Meticulous eye for detail & accuracy
- Proficient in Legal Accounts Management Software & experience of Zero, Sage, Excel
- A proactive approach to problem-solving
