Academics are looking for an experienced and motivated Deputy Education Manager (English) to support the leadership and delivery of high-quality academic provision within a prison education setting.
This role is ideal for a strong educational leader with a passion for English and a commitment to transforming lives through learning.
Working closely with the Education Manager, you will help oversee curriculum quality, staff performance, and learner outcomes, with a particular focus on English and functional/academic literacy provision.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Education Manager in the day-to-day leadership of the education department
Lead on the English curriculum, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment
Monitor learner progress, achievement, and quality of outcomes in English
Coach, mentor, and support teaching staff to raise standards and share best practice
Contribute to quality assurance processes, including lesson observations, audits, and action planning
Support curriculum development aligned with Ofsted, awarding body, and prison service requirements
Happy to comply with a Prison Clearance
Strong subject specialism in English (GCSE, Functional Skills, or equivalent)
Experience teaching English in FE, adult education, or secure environments
Proven experience in a leadership or management role (or readiness to step into one)
Strong understanding of quality frameworks, curriculum design, and performance management
Ability to work effectively within the secure and regulated prison environment
